Government Affairs

March 18, 2008

Dear Colleagues,

As hopefully most of you are already aware, FATA will be hosting an exhibit of consumer artwork in the rotunda of the capitol building in Tallahassee on April 10th, 2008. The exhibit is part of our “kick-off” to a legislative push to establish licensure for the Art Therapy profession. We hope that you will be in attendance at the event.

If you are able to attend, please email me at gac@floridaarttherapy.org so the governmental affairs committee may plan accordingly. The exhibit will be on display from 9am to 2pm. I encourage those who will be in attendance to contact your local representatives to see about having a brief meeting with them following the exhibit to discuss the benefits of the art therapy profession and the need to obtain licensure. To find out who your representative is, please visit the following website:

https://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sections/Representatives/representatives.aspx

Once there, please look for an area labeled “Find your Representative” on the lower left of the webpage. To find the State Senator that represents your district please repeat the same steps at the following website:

https://www.flsenate.gov/Legislators/index.cfm?Mode=Member%20Pages&Submenu=1&Tab=legislators&CFID=71001695&CFTOKEN=16360209

Please let the FATA Board know if you will be meeting with your representative so that we can provide you with talking points and helpful printed materials and would be happy to discuss areas and issues to highlight at the meeting(s).

For those who cannot attend the event, we encourage you to contact your representatives prior to the event to encourage them to stop by the exhibit.

Please send the FATA GAC an email with your representatives’ names so we can begin to build a list of which art therapists live and/or work in which district.

We, the FATA Board, appreciate your assistance in this effort and hope to see a large contingency in Tallahassee.

Sincerely,

Craig Siegel, ATR-BC

GAC Chair, FATA
